Off to the Vatican City! A sea of people, a dozen photos. Managed to catch the pope in the flesh as his chauffeur drove him around the concourse. Left for lunch while the pope was in the midst of making his speech as half the time we couldn't understand the language. Went through security check in the Vatican Museum just for a toilet break before grabbing our gelato of the day.
After the flea market outside the Vatican, it was on to Castel Sant Angelo and Ponte Sant Angelo. Where the scene of Robert Langdon and the chase of the pointing swords took place in The Da Vinci Code. Jaywalked to the middle of Umberto I to take pictures of Piazza dei Tribunali then on to Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiori, Area Sacra, the Pantheon (poor comparison to the other Pantheons in Athens and France), Tempio Adriano and finally Fontana di Trevi where we all tossed a coin for a wish.
Walked on and entered a restaurant as the guy touting for our patronage waived our service charge. Food was mediocre and not to mention the bitchy waitress who couldn't wait to throw us the bill before we even asked for it. Fiasco with the bitchy waitress demanding that we pay servizi and explanation about the waiver falling on her deaf ears. The touter then came and blamed us for not calling him for the bill and said what was paid couldn't be refunded, ending our day on a slightly sour note until we got back to PCR and had a bitching session about the woman. Haha.
