En route to Florence was our day trip to Pisa. For no other aim than to see one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Leaning Tower. After waiting for the train that was delayed from 1006am to 1011, to 1016, back to 1011, a 3 hour journey (during which I got displaced from my seat by an old woman who wanted to sit with her friend -_-) brought us to Pisa. Slept through the entire way.
Left our luggage at the train station and started exploring. Passed by a colourful wall where we spent a fair amount of time throwing our own faces and Santa Maria della Spina. Had a delicious (and relatively cheap) lunch before walking to the Field of Miracles where the Leaning Tower was situated. First thing everyone would notice was the tower. Second was the number of people taking superposition shots, two hands to the left, qi gong style. Haha. Everyone trying to "push the tower". Probably spent about 2 hours taking photos and a couple more at the flea market. As we were leaving and attempting to take our jump shot and 5 people shot at the field, a guy came up and volunteered to help us take a photo. 5 of us stood in a row waiting for him to countdown to a group shot. Who knew his last word would be "jump!" and 5 of us stunned, burst out laughing.
On the way back to the station, went through Piazza dei Cavalieri and via Borgo Stretto, Pisa's shopping street. Got back to the station with time to spare only to be harrassed by a couple of drunkards, one of which gave me a shock of my life.
The train ride to Florence saw a bunch of people who didn pay for tickets, two of which made a huge commotion thereby putting an end to what precious sleep time we could have managed...
Before the terrible night we had sleeping at the Florence train station. By 3, 4am, I think it was near zero degrees and freezing. I name it the most pathetic night of my existence. Thank goodness its over. Urgh... No more sleeping over in train stations, ever!!
