Had a late breakfast and spend about 45 minutes to walk to Kilmainham Gaol. The weather was wet and deary. Take goodness for b's poncho that I taped up after the Legoland trip. Haha. Passed the Guiness Brewery which looked like a run down factory. Something one would find on a James Bond movie set where the bad guys would be holed up in.
Finally reached the gaol after our long trek. It was one of the largest unoccupied gaols in Europe and used to house many of Ireland's patriots and revolutionists. After a presentation of the gaol's heritage by our guide (a nice old man with a very soothing voice one would probably hear on BBC) in the gaol's chapel, he brought us around, pointing out the different cells of past political prisoners and what went on years ago. It felt kind of surreal knowing what we were walking along corridors where real prisoners (no matter if they were just 8 years old and there for stealing food during the famine or political heroes who were executed for attempting to help Ireland gain its independence) had once set foot. Then there was the chapel where Joseph Plunkett married Grace Gifford. He had proposed with that damn bhb letter of his saying she "will marry him and nobody else" He was executed 4 hours later and the woman was imprisoned. -_-" After exiting the maze of corridors and cells, we reached the more modern part and the execution area, Stonebreaker's Yard. Was a mite depressing. There was also Anne Devlin, a remarkable woman who was imprisoned for 2 and a half years in complete darkness resulting in her becoming blind yet she never gave away the names of 50 fellow rebels. I shudder at the thought of the price people have paid for their country's independence, in this case Ireland's Home Rule.
Rain became heavier as we left and walked to the Ireland Museum of Modern Art. Took pretty pictures on the sly; craned my neck to take that "WE ARE EVIL" up on the ceiling.
Lunch came after that back at Temple Bar. Charlie 2, a franchise apparently, and this outlet was ran by a Malaysian couple. Funky music from Phil Zhang to Black Eye Peas to Jay Chou was amusing. Had a huge plate of sweet and sour chicken and a mountain of rice. Next was back to shopping at King Street cause m had to go back to TK Maxx for her tax refund voucher. H&M, Warehouse and Zara. The next bomb, Little Man, was dropped. URgh. Left the area at 7 plus 8pm cause the shops closed damn early. Skipped the pub crawl, had a damn sour apple and tried all means and methods to pack my belongings and That pair of heels.
